AIxEnergy is an independent intelligence platform focused on the physical economy of artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence is often described as a software revolution, but its next phase will be shaped by infrastructure: electricity, cooling, land, fiber, capital, permitting, reliability, cybersecurity, governance, and public trust. The organizations that lead the AI era will not be defined only by who builds the most capable models. They will be defined by who can build, finance, operate, govern, and defend the systems that make intelligence possible.
AIxEnergy helps utilities, investors, data center developers, technology vendors, regulators, public agencies, and executive teams understand how artificial intelligence is reshaping electricity infrastructure before the consequences appear in load forecasts, capital plans, interconnection queues, rate cases, investment memos, reliability events, or public conflict.
Our work is built around two complementary frameworks. The Shadow Grid describes the emerging layer of private power, behind-the-meter generation, hybrid energy campuses, large-load interconnection strategies, and parallel infrastructure forming around AI demand. The Cognitive Grid describes the deeper transformation of electricity systems as artificial intelligence enters forecasting, planning, operations, asset management, cybersecurity, markets, and governance.
Together, these frameworks explain why AI is both a new pressure on the grid and a new intelligence layer within it.
AIxEnergy provides independent analysis, executive intelligence, strategic briefings, market interpretation, and a growing intellectual community for leaders operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence, electricity, infrastructure, markets, and governance. The platform is designed for decision-makers who need to anticipate constraint risk, evaluate strategic opportunities, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and act before infrastructure bottlenecks become financial, operational, or political liabilities.
What AIxEnergy Provides
AIxEnergy is built around a focused set of high-value intelligence products.
AIxEnergy Quarterly is the flagship intelligence journal for the AI-electricity transition. Published four times per year in print and digital formats, it combines original analysis, the Shadow Grid Report, the Cognitive Grid Brief, Regulatory Watch, Executive Signals, and selected contributor essays into a concise, boardroom-ready publication.
Executive Intelligence extends the Quarterly into an institutional product for organizations that need shared strategic language and recurring insight. It is designed for utilities, infrastructure investors, data center developers, technology companies, law firms, public agencies, and corporate strategy teams navigating the infrastructure consequences of artificial intelligence.
Strategic Briefings provide focused executive and board-level presentations for organizations seeking a clear, high-level understanding of the AI-electricity transition, its risks, and its opportunities.
The Contributors Network brings together leaders, researchers, practitioners, investors, policymakers, engineers, economists, and technologists helping define the future of artificial intelligence and infrastructure. AIxEnergy does not accept advertising, sponsored content, paid placements, native advertising, affiliate marketing, product endorsements, or company-sponsored editorial content. Contributor content is a non-financial exchange of ideas, not a commercial transaction.
Mission
The central challenge of the coming decade is not whether artificial intelligence will affect infrastructure. That transition is already underway.
The deeper question is how energy systems, capital markets, public institutions, industrial developers, technology companies, and communities will respond as intelligence, electricity demand, autonomy, infrastructure constraints, and governance converge inside the operational core of critical systems.
AIxEnergy exists to illuminate that transition. Its mission is to provide analytical clarity before constraints bind, capital is misallocated, public trust erodes, or decisions become irreversible. AIxEnergy helps leaders see the systems behind the headlines, the infrastructure beneath the models, and the strategic consequences forming before consensus catches up.
Founder
Brandon N. Owens is an energy infrastructure executive, author, and strategist focused on the intersection of artificial intelligence, electricity systems, innovation, and infrastructure governance.
He currently serves as Vice President of Innovation at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, where he oversees one of the largest clean energy research and commercialization portfolios in the United States. In that role, he directs investment strategies across power generation and storage, hydrogen and alternative fuels, advanced building technologies, grid modernization, clean transportation, and energy innovation.
Owens previously held roles at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, General Electric, S&P Global, and Cambridge Energy Research Associates, where he worked on energy market transformation, infrastructure investment, technology strategy, renewable energy, digital systems, and energy-sector intelligence.
He is the founder of AIxEnergy and the author of The Wind Power Story and The Cognitive Grid. His work examines how infrastructure architecture, market design, technology, and governance shape the long-term evolution of energy systems.
Editorial Independence
AIxEnergy is independent, non-partisan, and grounded in evidence, analysis, professional experience, and reasoned judgment.
AIxEnergy does not sell advertising, publish sponsored content, accept paid placements, promote vendor products, or produce company-sponsored editorial material. The purpose of the platform is not advocacy, marketing, or political persuasion. The purpose is understanding.
