The leading organizations of the AI era will not be defined only by the models they build. They will also be defined by their ability to finance, construct, operate, secure, and govern the systems that make large-scale intelligence possible.
AIxEnergy Journal examines this emerging system before its effects are fully visible in load forecasts, interconnection queues, capital plans, utility tariffs, equipment orders, rate cases, investment decisions, reliability events, or local opposition. It serves utilities, data center developers, technology companies, infrastructure providers, investors, regulators, public agencies, researchers, advisers, and executive teams making decisions under uncertainty.

Editorial Purpose
AIxEnergy Journal exists because the most consequential questions at the intersection of AI and energy are rarely technological alone. A data center may be commercially attractive but impossible to energize on schedule. A utility may face credible load growth but insufficient evidence to justify major infrastructure commitments. A regulator may support economic development while resisting the transfer of risk to existing customers. An investor may see a large project announcement without knowing whether the developer controls the site, has secured power, ordered equipment, obtained permits, or committed capital.
The same problem appears when AI enters the power sector. A forecasting model or operational copilot may perform well in a pilot yet remain unfit for sustained use because the utility lacks reliable data, validation procedures, cybersecurity controls, accountable ownership, or the technical workforce required to maintain it. The decisive issue is often not whether the technology works, but whether the surrounding institution can use it responsibly and repeatedly.
The journal’s mission is to clarify these systems before constraints bind, capital is misallocated, public trust deteriorates, or decisions become difficult to reverse. It seeks to reveal the infrastructure beneath the models, the institutions behind the decisions, the incentives shaping behavior, and the consequences forming before consensus catches up.

AIxEnergy Journal covers both sides of the emerging AI-energy system: the infrastructure required to support artificial intelligence and the use of AI within energy systems themselves.
Its principal subjects include AI-driven electricity demand, data-center development, site selection, power procurement, large-load interconnection, utility tariffs, cost allocation, generation adequacy, transmission and distribution constraints, flexible service, on-site power, energy storage, cooling, water use, equipment supply chains, infrastructure finance, community impacts, permitting, and international competition for digital and energy infrastructure.
The journal also examines utility AI strategy, forecasting, planning, operations, asset management, cybersecurity, data architecture, model validation, human oversight, agentic systems, workforce change, and the governance of delegated decisions in critical infrastructure.
These subjects are treated as parts of one system. An article about electricity demand is incomplete if it ignores project maturity, equipment lead times, transmission capacity, tariffs, and risk allocation. An article about utility AI is incomplete if it ignores implementation, ownership, validation, cybersecurity, and institutional capability. An article about policy is incomplete if it does not identify who has authority, who must act, and who bears the cost of failure.
Editorial Method
AIxEnergy Journal combines engineering, economics, markets, regulation, capital, institutional analysis, and operating experience. It looks for the constraints and dependencies that determine whether a technology, project, or policy can move from announcement to execution.
The journal distinguishes observed facts from forecasts, scenarios, hypotheses, proxy measures, illustrative calculations, expert judgment, and validated conclusions. Announced megawatts are not treated as operating demand. Numerical precision is not mistaken for causal proof. Forecasts are evaluated through their assumptions, time horizons, geographic concentration, and exposure to technological or commercial change.
Every article is expected to address the decision beneath the topic. Who controls the relevant asset? Who has authority? Who pays? Who bears the downside? What evidence is missing? Which assumptions drive the conclusion? What must happen next? What would materially weaken or disprove the argument?
AIxEnergy Journal favors analysis that identifies structural change, exposes hidden constraints, clarifies risk ownership, distinguishes credible activity from speculation, or gives readers a practical way to act. It avoids material that is primarily promotional, derivative, or designed to generate attention without improving understanding.
AIxEnergy Journal
AIxEnergy Journal is the digital publication at AIxEnergy.io. It publishes original analysis, contributed essays, interviews, research interpretation, international perspectives, visual frameworks, market commentary, and decision tools.
The journal is selective rather than comprehensive. It does not attempt to cover every announcement, filing, project, or product release. Its purpose is to identify developments that reveal deeper changes in infrastructure, markets, institutions, and risk.
Digital publishing allows the journal to respond quickly while preserving the standards of a serious professional publication. Articles are edited for evidence, clarity, structure, practical relevance, and intellectual independence. When conditions change, material may be updated or corrected to preserve its usefulness.
AIxEnergy Quarterly
AIxEnergy Quarterly is the digital publication of AIxEnergy Journal. Published four times a year, each 50 page issue is organized around a defining theme and presents a curated body of analysis drawn primarily from the preceding quarter.
The Quarterly is not an archive of the website. Selected articles may be revised, updated, shortened, expanded, combined, or redesigned for print. Original introductions, interviews, data displays, diagrams, sidebars, scorecards, and decision tools are added to create a coherent publication rather than a collection of unrelated pieces.
Each issue is designed as a durable executive reference that readers can retain, annotate, circulate, and use in planning, investment, policy, and strategy. Selected digital articles are included only with the author’s permission and after editorial review.
Contributors
AIxEnergy Journal publishes work from an international network of utility leaders, engineers, researchers, data-center practitioners, technology executives, investors, lawyers, regulators, public officials, and community experts.
Contributors are selected for the quality of their reasoning, evidence, research, and operating experience. They are not required to share a common position. The journal welcomes disagreement when it clarifies assumptions, tests prevailing narratives, or reveals legitimate differences among institutions, markets, and regions.
Contributions may take the form of original essays, practitioner perspectives, interviews, research adaptations, technical explainers, policy analyses, visual frameworks, or jointly authored articles. The editorial process can begin with a completed draft, an outline, an interview, a presentation, or a set of observations.
Unpublished academic research is handled carefully. AIxEnergy Journal will not knowingly disclose novel findings, proprietary frameworks, figures, or distinctive arguments in a manner that could compromise later scholarly publication. Articles related to unpublished research must remain complementary and are published only with the author’s approval.
Editorial Independence
AIxEnergy Journal is independent and non-partisan. Its purpose is analysis, not advocacy, vendor promotion, institutional marketing, or political persuasion.
The journal does not sell editorial placement, accept paid articles, publish disguised promotional material, or allow commercial or institutional interests to determine its conclusions. Should sponsorship ever be introduced, it would be clearly identified and separated from independent editorial work.

Publication Standards
AIxEnergy Journal seeks writing that is factual, clear about uncertainty, technically credible, institutionally grounded, and relevant to real decisions. Sources should be appropriate to the claim, with preference given to primary documents, official filings, public data, technical reports, peer-reviewed research, and direct operating evidence.
Writers should state what the evidence establishes, what they infer, what remains unknown, and what they propose. Material forecasts and assumptions should be visible rather than buried. Articles that function mainly as marketing, omit significant conflicts, or overstate uncertain evidence may be revised or declined.
The editor may revise submissions for clarity, organization, length, consistency, and style. Substantive changes are reviewed with the author before publication. The journal may correct, update, withdraw, or annotate material when evidence changes or an error is identified.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
AIxEnergy Journal may use artificial intelligence in research, transcription, drafting, editing, analysis, visualization, formatting, and production. AI tools do not hold editorial authority. Human judgment remains responsible for source evaluation, fact-checking, interpretation, causal reasoning, editorial decisions, contributor review, and publication approval. Fluency is not treated as evidence, generated citations are not accepted without verification, and model confidence is not a substitute for validation.

Brandon N. Owens is an energy infrastructure executive, author, strategist, and editor whose work spans power systems, markets, technology, innovation, capital, and infrastructure governance.

His career has included leadership and analytical roles at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, General Electric, S&P Global, Cambridge Energy Research Associates, Insight Sourcing Group, and other energy and technology organizations. His work has addressed renewable energy, grid modernization, digital systems, market transformation, infrastructure investment, commercialization, and executive strategy.
